Blue or white spring flowers shaped like small butterflies in loose spikes on mounded 3 to 4-foot plants with bluish green to gray-green foliage.
For best results (if planting more than one of these plants), space each one 2-3 feet apart.
    Landscape uses:
Wild indigos are valuable for both their beautiful form and their flowers in drier sections of a wildflower garden or a perennial border. Both flowers and foliage are excellent in arrangements.

A native (to America) plant that is drought resistant (deeply rooted). It is used in informal borders, wild gardens, and on hillsides. Very free flowering (pea type structure). Prefers sandy soil, full sun, and room to grow. In the wild, found in prairies, open woods, along streamsides and roadsides. Seed pods make good rattles. Plants in this genus were used by native Americans and settlers as a tea for internal cleaning and externally for skin wounds.
