Small bumpy aloe hybrid with colorful green and red leaves. A very popular container plant in cultivation. Mass produced in tissue culture, in addition to pretty steady propagation from offsets and bulbils.

The leaf colors depend on exposure. The background color is light green to dark green, with a bluish cast given strong light and a purplish cast given extreme exposure. The red margins may be nearly entire for the bottom half, with more clearly discernible teeth near the tips. Flowers are red, appearing year round on branched inflorescences frequently bearing bulbils, or small plantlets. The bulbils may actually flower and bear their own bulbils, given time. Regular offsets also appear near the base of the mother plant, and these will root and be ready for separation relatively quickly. Bulbils will not typically get much bigger than 3-4 inches on the stalk and will not grow roots until they come in contact with the soil (or are cut and placed there).

This plant will do reasonably well long-term in a 6 inch pot, given regular depupping. If you want it to clump, an 8 inch pot would be a better choice for the first few years.

Best colors with strong light. Under low light (like dim indoor conditions) the margins lose their intense red color, the leaves grow longer, and the whole plant loses much of its character. There are a couple of examples of this in the photos above.

This beautiful aloe becomes more of a vivid dark red on the leaf margins and soft spines when in the sun. It is drought tolerant. It stays fairly small, blooms in the fall and winter.
