Speedwell (Veronica peduncularis) 'Georgia Blue' is a lovely, spreading Veronica that features bright blue blossoms in early to mid spring. Works nicely as a ground cover. It likes full sun, and given its early bloom time, will grow well in areas that may become shaded later in the summer. The leaves turn a bronze color in the fall, making this a multiseason ornamental groundcover.

I have grown this Veronica in both zone 5 and zone 6. When I grew it in zone 5 it was in full sun. It grew nicely and filled in the area where I started it. It was reliable for two more seasons and then it did not return after winter, despite an unremarkable winter.
I tried again last year in my zone 6 location. This time I planted it in an eastern location where it got at least 6 hours of sun. This time it struggled to survive. There were still some small pieces left at the end of fall. Somehow, an even tinier bit managed to survive the harsh winter. I moved it to full sun this summer. Unfortunately, it is still struggling, but it is in better condition than it was this time last year.

This is one of the first blooms of the spring. It is evergreen and ready as soon as the temps warm up. It spreads, but not too agressively.

I am lovin' this plant thanks to Sheila_FW. She was generous and shared a piece of hers with me. I planted this in my h*** strip (area between the sidewalk and the street). This plant has received NO care other than what mother nature provided. It has absolutely thrived and covers itself in beautiful blue blooms! This is certainly a winner in my book. I will get some pics to post here soon.

This plant has been horribly invasive for me. I might as well have planted Bermuda grass. :)
Try 'Waterperry' instead of 'Georgia Blue' in cool central California. Waterperry is not a strong (Lobelia-like) Blue, but 'Waterperry' IS well behaved. Who wants a garden thug like 'Georgia Blue' if she runs amuck! I don't know whether I'll ever be rid of her.
