Howdy, Folks... (I know, I know, long time no see!)

I've admired this plant in my woods for decades but never bothered to identify it. Recently friends of mine found it on their property and asked me about it. I've Googled, snoogled, and am now bafoodled. (Is there really a word "snoogled?")

Does anyone have an idea what this is? I've been going bald for several years now and in the past week have been pulling my hair out trying to identify this. (It's not a pretty picture! Please help before my brain is exposed.) Sticking tongue out
By the way, the leaves are somewhat ovoid but nearly lanceolate, green on top with a beautiful purple underside. It's personality is that of a demure wallflower but when acknowledged it wants to shine and strutt its stuff. (Sorry, it's m' mind, ya know! ) Smiling

Shoe (offering a big howdy and tribute to all you 'old-timers' monitoring this forum. Big time thanks!)

Thank you, silversurfer! You're either a great sleuth or well-versed in the plant world. Does this plant also grow in Scotland? Just curious.

Thanks again.
Best to you and yours,
Shoe (who can now quit pulling his hair out and see what grows back.)

My pleasure...glad to help.

Sadly this plant does not grow here in the wild.
Never seen it in a garden either.

"Sleuth or well-versed in the plant world"...a little bit of both!

Howdy, Dick...good to see. I hope all is well with you and yours out your way.

I'm in and out (still no home internet so rely on a fancy phone and over-exercising my thumbs, trying to type as fast as my 10 fingers once did!)

Happy gardening. Keep smiling!

Howdy , Sue. Great to see you're here. Thanks for the database link. There sure are some great pics of it. And don'tcha just love saying "Tipularia?" Kinda makes ya wanna put a tune to it and sing it from time to time!

Lin, thanks! I'll read those, too. I hope all is well down your way. Please send me some warm weather. It's in the 30s here today, wet, and my greenhouse plants are exhausted from being shuffled into the sunshine and back on heat mats entirely too often. Other plants are basking in the shoffice with the wood stove burning. See how desperate they need some Florida sunshine? Smiling

Happy day, Folks!

Shoe, WOW, in the 30's???!!! Brr ... that's cHiLLy!!
