I bought a little hoya rope the other day. But instead of it being in soil it's in floral foam and is suggested to add water every month. I was wondering how to plant this in soil or if it was even possible. I'm a little newer to houseplants and would appreciate help. Thank you!

I wonder if it has roots. I saw those today.

Many people root hoyas in water and then pot them up but I've never seen one growing like that in floral foam. If you decide to plant your Hindu Rope Hoya (Hoya carnosa 'Compacta') into soil, I'd suggest using a small pot (be sure it has drainage holes in the bottom) and an airy, well draining potting medium. Years ago when I grew numerous hoyas, I always used a mixture of bagged potting soil and orchid bark mix which offers good air circulation around the root system.

You might try potting it up as Lin described but include the foam block where roots have probably already formed. If the roots are integrated into the foam it is best not to try to extricate them.

I have never, EVER seen that before! Its almost like mounting it, in a way, but I don't think Hindu Rope is one that would do well mounted. Mine always were in soil.

I never thanked everyone for the replies! Sadly the Hoya started to shrivel and I dont think it's going to make it. Such a shame, I wanted to save it. But thank you so much!
