I am in the iris forum usually. I would like to venture into daylilies and not sure where to start. Im in zone 9 currently in California. Summers can be 110 winters down to the 20's, rarely in the teen. Usually in the 30's and 40's.

I like the following type of flowers:

Any suggestions that might do well. We have walmart, home depot, and a nursery thats does mostly landscape work cause he can't get good people for the nursery.

I wouldn't buy from the places you named. Go on the lily auction or look online for daylily sellers. You can find all sorts of daylilies at all different prices. I am in zone 6 so not sure what would be good my guess is evergreen ones would grow best, but I am sure someone will let you know from here. Good luck!

Richard,
Keep watching the "Daylily Classifieds" here on garden.org
You can get a lot of really nice daylilies and usually at very reasonable prices too.

I agree with Sue, I would buy from any of the sellers right now in the Classifieds and Group Buys forum here:
https://garden.org/forums/view...

Amador Flower Farm is in California and has a good review: https://garden.org/greenpages/...

Also, Schreiner's Iris Gardens is in Oregon and is now selling for daylily hybridizer Bill Maryott. https://www.schreinersgardens....

The Lily Auction is what Marcia is referring to. Lots of people go there to buy daylilies or daylily seeds:
https://www.daylily.com/cgi-bi...

Daylilies can sell from $6 and up, depending on what year it was hybridized or supply and demand.

My zone 6 here in southern Indiana has very extreme temps too, but daylilies are pretty hardy plants and I have only lost a few over the last 15 years.

Good luck on your hunt and purchases! You can always make another post to ask about a particular seller before you buy.

Hi i am new to daylilies too! i started with some bareroot ones I got from a seller on Ebay years ago. now I buy from Blue Ridge Daylilies on facebook. they cost more than say buying whatever you can find in a local nursery, but the plants arrived so healthy and they bloomed the same season i planted them so ive caught the bug and now i cant wait for the ones Ive bought this year to arrive! nodding

@creativeclover, Debra (shive1) is selling examples of what you like on the Classifieds and Group Buys forum right now if she has any left. Maybe that is how you came up with what you like, but at any rate, these are great prices.

@ashelys and @creativeclover Welcome! to the forum! You've come to the right place for info. Lots of knowledgable folks who share what they know. I am still learning as well. This is also a great place for being aided and abetted, um, I mean encouraged and supported in your daylily hobby Big Grin

@Hazelcrestmikeb Good call! Thumbs up
