When we come back to New Mexico, usually May fifth, sometimes our grass is literally a foot tall. Growing in and around our beds. The edges of these beds are marked with river stones that disappear into the grass. The beds are randomly shaped and placed so sometimes it's hard to see where they begin and end.

The first mowing is not easy and we have had the same man do it and subsequent mowings every year. This year he missed some of the edges and we have very short foliage (1/2 inches) in several places, maybe twenty or thirty plants.

We're looking for suggestions for saving those plants.

Any ideas?

They'll just grow back, same as the lawn grass does when you mow it.

I agree, and looking at your zone, I guess there is plenty of time for bloom. Love the bonus picture!

This! Sellers trim daylilies before shipping, and they always come back, so it's probably nothing to worry about. Also, I've heard several people say that traumatic damage to their plants spurred them to grow like crazy!

My DM had some DLs in the yard that were forgotten about and were mowed over repeatedly for years while being choked by centipede grass. I discovered and relocated them to a safe spot where they did just fine. If they can survive that yours should be fine.
