The yellow one is from Bill Raddler, the breeder of the Knockout series of roses. It should be disease free.

I feel like a rose snob. Why am I so not in love with these types of roses? Of course, as a congrats gift when I bought my house, my parents gave me a knockout rose--ugh--I keep it for sentimental reasons (they meant well) and it does do well here. However, I am constantly checking it for signs of RRD. It is a healthy thing right now and because it came from my parents, I keep it. I also send them pictures of how well it is doing (both are in assisted living in southern California). I guess, to each his/her own. Not a fan of most hybrid teas either, so I guess we each have different tastes and that is just fine. (With the exception of my boyfriend's daughter hating chocolate---as a female and a baker and avid chocolate lover, I just don't understand that--I accept it but I don't understand it!)

I just hate it when people pull out beautiful older variety roses and place these types of roses in their gardens, under the guise that it is "easier," or "newer and therefore better." Sorry, I don't want to come off as a rose snob but sometimes I guess I feel that way. We have lost some beautiful old roses because of this.

I feel you Mustbnuts. I am not that much for the newer roses either. I have a few, but I prefer the older roses. And OGRs are just as easy to care for if not easier. I would rather have a beautiful Alba or Centifolia any day.

They just didn't strike me as very special and the name was a real turn-off without even an inspirational story behind it. I was hoping to find Crimson Glory, but no such luck. For me it clearly doesn't have to be an antique, but just have that elusive "Je ne sais quoie" such as is found in so many of the modern Lens Hybrid Musks. I wouldn't mind HTs in a cutting bed, but their form doesn't really suit itself to my old house and garden.

I like the rather unimaginatively named "Pink Bi-Color Rose" since its blooms vaguely remind me of Nicole, or even Handel, although the colors are not quite the same, and they're obviously on different categories of plants.

I know. It's as if they couldn't even be bothered to give them individual names, just bi-coloured, red, yellow. The picture is pretty, but I'm also guessing no fragrance.

Clearly they don't know Rose People, who enjoy having interesting names to go with their individual roses, and not just the series. I always thought that if I were to hybridize a rose, I'd name it 'Henry Morgenthau Spinnaker III' - not that there ever was such a person. I just made it up and because I liked the sound of it.

I like the sound of that one too, Mike. I named one of my cats Lady Furthermore's Folly for the same reason, and then there was Pepplegosling, whose name was changed to Pepplegoose when he grew beyond kittenhood.

Monrovia should have tried some interesting marketing with Paramount Pictures by playing on 'Grit,' as in the 1969 movie "True Grit". The film had a cast of characters full of interesting names that could have been used for these roses (given the rights), such as Rooster Cogburn, Colonel G. Stonehill, Captain Boots Finch, or even Dirty Bob. I wouldn't mind having roses with a few of those names!

@Calsurf73, I fixed your link Mike, you can easily click the edit to do that. nodding You just needed a space between the word 'Magazine' and the url link, they were connected so it broke the link.
