I got 3 salvia 'Roman Red' plants from FBTS.

Today, I saw a flower in bloom and saw a bud on another. Didn't have batteries in my camera, so I couldn't get pics, but a beautiful red flower and a red bud, including the red calyx. Maybe the the bud will bloom tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing more in bloom. Hopefully, I can get pics this weekend.

I'm jealous! My FBTS order doesn't come till next week! I have 2 of the Roman Red Salvias in my order and they look to be beautiful! I am hoping perhaps they will prove to be hardy in lower zones (since that hasn't been determined yet). But even if they aren't , should still be worth growing as annuals!

To my eye, this is one of the best new Salvias in some time. The color is fully saturated and the plant is not fussy.

The red flowers are so beautiful to my eye. I love it and you will too when they bloom for you. The color will attract the eyes of hummers for sure.

I planted one of the Roman Red in one of my flowerbeds. I was going to pot up all three, but now I'm thinking that would have been a better idea instead of planting one in the ground.

We have some new and small young wild rabbits that were born this spring as well as, some older wild rabbits in the yard. I'm worried that one of the young rabbits will start chewing on the RR to taste it.

I might have to pull it up out of the ground and pot it up this weekend, Monday or Tuesday.

@Iamcarol,

Welcome! Happy you're here. Welcome! Welcome!

Your Roman Red plants do look great. How many plants are in your pic?

I've 3 Roman Red plants that are in 3 containers. It's my new favorite salvia and I want to get new plants of it every year, since I know they will die with the cold temps. A new "must have" salvia for me. I haven't gotten around to getting new pics of the plants, since they've been in the containers. Here's the database link if you want to add your pic(s).

I was lucky enough to discover 'roman red' at a local garden center a few weeks ago. I now have the rather large plant, in full bloom, in a container. I'm really loving it so far. The cheery-red flowers almost glow.

I really liked growing 'roman red' this year. It did not get the same hummingbird use as other salvias, but it is a beautiful plant and a nice hummer beacon. It remained pretty compact in a patio container.

I get Roman Red at my local nursery. It gets massive! I'm somewhat disappointed because the hummingbirds rarely look at it. I might have room for one this year, but I don't know for sure.

This is one plant:
