Gaura lindheimeri Smiling

There's a few pinks!

Passionate Blush seems to be current .. and it has those deep red buds.

But, if it's been around for some time it could be Siskiyou Pink but yours looks to have broader leaves and appears to be a dwarf form.

Karalee (TM) Petite Pink ..

'Perky Pink'

Take your pick. Hilarious!

Aha ... It's Karalee Petite Pink, a Proven Winners plant. I recognized that name the minute I read your post! Janet: As always, Thank You so much for your help!! Thumbs up

Note: I've always known this plant as Gaura lindheimeri but I see that it's now lumped in with Oenothera: http://garden.org/plants/searc...

... or has it always been Oneothera?

Hmm, on the Plant list Oenothera is a synonym.

http://www.theplantlist.org/tp...

RHS has it as Gaura lindheimeri too ..

http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...

ITIS has it the other way around!

http://www.itis.gov/servlet/Si...

Taxonomic confusion again, depends who thinks what. Shrug!

Everyone else is calling it Gaura.

I thought the best fit was Karalee Petite Pink.

I agree, Taxonomic confusion once again! I've always known these plants as Gaura, and Oenothera (Evening Primrose) as a different plant. I went ahead and added my photo's to the database at the Oenothera listing ... hope it's correct and doesn't cause a lot of work for the moderators.

The RHS site, shows Gaura lindheimeri with the common name of White Gaura. The ATP database has an Oenothera lindheimeri (with photo of a white bloom) with the synonym of Gaura lindheimeri.

The older I get, it doesn't take much to confuse me but I like to try to label my plants correctly ... getting harder and harder sometimes with so many changes. Smiling

Gaura lindheimeri Engelm. & A.Gray (Boston Journal of Natural History 5 1845) is the basionym.
The species was transferred to the genus Onagraceae as Oenothera lindheimeri (Engelm. & A.Gray) W.L.Wagner & Hoch in Systematic Botany Monographs 83, page 213 in September 2007.
It's botanical accepted name is now Oenothera lindheimeri.
However, if you are looking to buy the plant, I see (in 2013) that nurseries list the plant as Gaura; I don't see any offered as Oenothera.

In this case, it's not so much a matter of taxonomic confusion, but rather that The Plant List is out of date. Thanks to the way Dave set up the database here at ATP, it really doesn't matter which name a person prefers, though. It will show up regardless of whether you search for Gaura or Oenothera. Thumbs up
