This site uses the Catalogue of Life for reference and it's still listed as genus Philodendron at the CoL, which is why our database still shows it as Philo: http://www.catalogueoflife.org...

I wonder if perhaps the CoL isn't updated as regularly as it used to be? They only have one listing under the name Thaumatophyllum (T. spruceanum) and it states that it's a synonym for Philodendron goeldii.

The Catalog of Life was updated last month. Its still Philodendron bipinnatifidum.

Not to me. Everything is being sold by collectors under the new genus now. Things move more swiftly among growers than the Catalog of Life. The accepted paper detailing the change was published last May. So this site is behind the times, like the COL

Gina, is this what you are referring to as the published paper from last year (02 May, 2018)? It's all very confusing to my old brain: https://phytokeys.pensoft.net/...

If the Catalogue of Life was updated last month, I wonder why it still lists the genus as Philodendron? The way they change things back and forth so much anymore, it's hard to know what's what. It was either last year, or 2017 that many in the Chirita genus were moved to Primulina and then moved back to Chirita again. Blinking

Lin it is because they are finally at the stage of botanic research where they can do DNA research on plant material the same way they do on people, and place plants in categories where they belong if they are not already there. When we were out at Tom Wood's, he was talking about having provided some DNA samples for a plant discovered in the wild that had been placed into a genus, and after testing it was determined to belong in another genus. So it was moved over. There have been several Anthuriums that have been moved from one group to a different group based on recent DNA testing. That is what has happened with these 'philodendrons'. Their genetic make up has been shown to be Thaumatophyllum, not Philodendron. There are a ton of Thaumatophyllum hybrids being made now by collectors. It should be an exciting time if some of these new varieties come to market.
