Thinking I am one zone (well, not zone, I am 8a) above you. I should experiment next year. Grin

It often has to do with how damp your soil stays in the winter. They do fine in well drained sandy soil but if your soil is heavy and stays moist they will be unhappy and rot. I had them for years in 8b but I could never keep them in my former 9a garden. Only difference was the soil.

Thanks for that confirmation, Alice. I do have mostly sandy loam, and it's a mixed blessing. I'll be sure to add caladiums next year. It seems that planted under trees would be great, as the tree roots will suck up excess moisture. I'll just have to be sure to water during the heat of summer. Thumbs up

I am in 8b and it is hit and miss with overwintering here. I grow most of mine in containers and store them inside for the winter in the container. The soil information makes sense. I think I could get them to overwinter in the ground here if I prepared the beds better. Time to experiment also. Good information.

Mine keep drying and dying over summer.
