Thank you for the excellent forum. I would very much appreciate advice on my new plant.
I was surprised, pleasantly, to successfully propagate from a cutting from a neighbor's rose bush. Now, at the first of September, I have a small plant with a couple 12-inch stems. Eventually, I wish to have the plant in a sunny in-ground spot. Should I plant it, now, and then over-winter it with mulch and burlap - I'm in Zone 7? Or, should I keep it in its container, protect it in the garage, and plant in the spring?

Keep in in it's container and keep it watered during the winter. When the threat of freeze is gone in the spring, plant it in the ground. It should be fine.
It's a rose!!! It has nothing to do with life and death.

Is your garage heated? Or insulated? Heated is not good but it should be insulated for best winter protection. And as Ken said, make sure you water it at least once a month all winter. Even if it's dormant it need water to survive.

You can also sink the whole pot, if it's not too big, somewhere for the winter. Sink it deep and then mulch it and it should do great.

Thank you for the great advice. The garage is not heated but is somewhat insulated, so, I suspect, will be perfect. (My purple queen plants over-wintered well, there, last year.) Can't wait to plant the rose in spring.
