Is your garage heated? Or insulated? Heated is not good but it should be insulated for best winter protection. And as Ken said, make sure you water it at least once a month all winter. Even if it's dormant it need water to survive.

You can also sink the whole pot, if it's not too big, somewhere for the winter. Sink it deep and then mulch it and it should do great.
