I just discovered most of my daylilies have these white spots. The most infected are the ones my mom sent me from Texas. The row farthest away from the ones my mom sent are not affected. I am quite sure they were very stressed as they came from 95+ heat to a cooler location, but I have purchased daylilies from the south and I have never seen this before. I have had over 600 at one time and never have I seen this. Is this just powdery mildew and I should just treat them, or should I pull them before it gets on all of them. Yikes!

Powdery mildew forms a haze on leaves, so I seriously doubt it's what you have.

Are the afflicted plants growing near any tree that gives off sap?

Are the white dots on the ground the same stuff or is that perlite?

No, no trees that have sap. I noticed that there is white stuff on top of the soil. I did amend the soil before I planted - could that white stuff have been in the top soil I got in bags?

You cannot rub the white stuff off the leaves.

I have seen powdery mildew on my bee balm and phlox and it does not look like that.

It must be from the soil. I am done planting, otherwise there would be mulch down. I was waiting until I am done. I wonder what it is. It doesn't smell like anything. It almost looks similar to snail control pellets, but these are all different sizes.

I read some more n line and it might be some kid of salt in the soil.

Is the white stuff on the ground the same as on the plants or is whats on top the soil hard little white rock like things that crumble when smashed? What did you amend the soil with?

It is pouring rain here - maybe that will wash the salt thing away. Maybe the salt is in the soil and the daylilies are taking the salt in through the roots and it is burning the leaves?

I amended the soil with manure also and I just read that can contain a lot of salt.

The stuff on the soil sounds like perlite. The white spots on the plant look fungal or maybe symptoms of herbicide drift.

I have been getting white spots like that after using a Spectracide extended control product for killing grass and weeds that says it can be used in flower beds right on the front label. I would amend that label to "can be used in flower beds that don't contain daylilies". There are some slug bait products that can also produce damage to daylily leaves.

I live in a townhome community and there are no weeds in the grass and the most affected are next to the edge of the grass. I thought it was because of them being from TX, but no, they were doing excellent until they got sprayed. How sad. There is probably nothing I can do about that. I am sure they spray the grass every so often. I wonder what will happen to them...

Okay, thanks so much. I am glad it is not some weird disease.

I have had no daylilies die from it, and I just cut off the affected foliage if it is too unsightly...they will be fine. Daylilies are tough. But I have stopped using the product that caused it.

I've had daylilies killed from overzealous "lawn guys" employed by the neighbor spraying "weed" killer. Only happened once but that was plenty.

I am going to try and find out if there is anything I can do to change things or find out their spraying days so I can cover them. Thanks so much!
