I can't remember the exact scientific name is for this ATM but with added photos I know most everyone knows what this is.
I need to know why it only starts to root then stops.
The 1st time about 4 months ago I put this piece in water it started the root seen in pics then about 4 weeks ago.I decided to use rooting hormones on it and recut it just a little. The original roots grew about quarter of inch and has stopped again!!! What is happening. . Lol.. I notice few days ago those roots seem to be weakening because 1 broke off as I barely touched it.

What would be the thing to.do .. it did grow 2 news leaves when I added the rooting hormones. I thought it was going to go this time but now those 2 new leaves aren't even getting larger???? I do not understand the problem here...
Any one with any ideas please let me know.. or anyone with something new I could try???

This is a Scindapsus. It is a creeping, climbing aroid that grows in wet conditions. I grow all of mine in sphagnum moss. Kept very very damp. Or mounted. Watered daily. This is a photo of mine. I probably have 5-6 of these. I would suggest you put your plant into moss, just kind of lay it on top of Sphagnum that has been soaked and wrung out and let it root there. Keep the moss damp not wet.

Shorter tip cuttings with 2-4 leaves and a short stem with a single bare node root more readily than longer stem cuttings.

Do you plan to eventually move it to a pot with soil or some other medium?

Do you know that single stem cutting will always remain a single stem? To get a nice looking plant, multiple stems potted together is best.

This is the plant above now, after it was been growing for a couple of months. As you can see in the above photo, this started with just 3 single stem single leaf cuttings that were mounted with moss onto a pole. This is how these really like to grow when in nature. As climbers. It is more convenient for the houseplant owner to grow them in a container of soil, but they make a very nice conversation piece when allowed to grow as they would in the wild. And this is no harder to take care of in a house than a potted plant, because there is no dirt. Its growing as a complete epiphyte. Just soak the moss once a day or so to keep it moist and its good to go. Portable too. This one is actually on a fencepost now covered in coir matting to allow it to have more room to grow and climb. If I want to move it, I just pick it up and move it.

You could easily do something similar by cutting your stem into 2 plants and mounting it

Wow I love learning new things!! I went read about both plants n how often they are mistaken and why!! Good read!! Interesting! I had no idea this plant even exited.
I planned to pot this up but now I believe I will put it in a fish tank with some moss and few other things maybe. .
Idk now that it's very different from what I thought it was.
THANKS EVERYONE! !!!

I will take a photo of one I have in one of my art planted aquariums. They do really well in just straight orchid mix too. The one I have in there is climbing out the top of the tank

This one is going to escape the tank, I will have to redirect it when it gets longer. Its stem was planted into moss and orchid bark in the 'wet' side of the tank, near the water we;; that creates the water feature. The other side of the tank is 'dry' because the water well is confined to only this half of the tank.
