Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Jerry Nettles')

Jerry Nettles had been just a so-so daylily for me. It does have plenty of blooms, 1st 2 or 3 years I had it, it was splotchy. It started looking much better though. Slow to multiply, and had struggled since I moved it out of a protected area. Some evergreens do fine here, others do not. It went from a large clump after about 10 years to a couple of small fans it 2 years after moving, so I don't think it would do well at all in a colder zone.

This is one of few evergreens that grew well in my zone 7. It had a beautiful flower and increased quickly. But I would not recommend it for a sales garden because when you dug it to divide it, 6 or 7 fans would be sharing the same crown so you always had to crack the crown to divide it and then the replanted divisions struggled for a year. It left my garden because it was too hard to divide.

Thank you for mentioning the dividing of the plant. I've most certainly noticed that some divide well and dividing others is like, well, sumo wrestling. Its never something I-thought of in the context of a negative trait, But your observation is dead on.

I hate having to send out plants with split crowns ,but with some plants, it is just unavoidable. I'll be mentioning this when it's a factor with a particular plant in the future. Great observation!!

PS yeah, Jerry Nettles left here some years ago too.
