This epi is always a very late bloomer, around Christmas / new year here.
No idea exactly where it came from but has been around here for ages. A strong grower but shy bloomer.
It's very fragrant.

Nice! Delightful that they don't all bloom at once.

Thanks too for the new thread. Hurray!

Wouldn't it be wonderful Steve, if we could find someone that knew who hybridized W H Morris? It really is a lovely flower, unfortunately mine battles and still has no sign of any flowers, mind you I have never seen it flower so it could be something else entirely!
I was sure that I had more than these few leftover from last year but they are all I can find.

Very nice Liz,
Yes your pic is Eastern monarch.
I have found it very hard to grow but the bloom is somehow an eyecatcher.
I only have cuttings of it now but I will persevere with it.
Last time it bloomed here was 2013.
Here's the pic.
Thumb of 2020-01-13/Hillsepicacti/bb0f4b

And a better one I dug out from 2010.

Re. WH Morris, Ron told me it was hybridised by an Azalea grower, presumably in Australia. It was sold here for $1 a cutting and I get the feeling it is somewhat maligned these days. I like it but I'm probably biased as I have 2 large plants of it!

Many thank's for confirming Eastern Monarch it is really hard to confirm when you can't find a photo to compare it against. Interesting what you said about W.H. Morris, I might have to see if Ron can remember anything else about the hybridizer next time I am sending an email.

No world beater but in it's favour it's fragrant and off season so I will be keeping it.

Hi Jenifer,
My days of registering epis are long gone.
So many new hybrids these days I have lost interest now.
Also that hybrid is ok at best, as I said, no world beater.

Yes Jenifer, that is exactly why I have lost interest.
Also when I registered mine it was free but I think it is now US $10 a hybrid.
I no longer sell epis , have deleted my website and my wife now posts epi pictures just for fun.
There are many epi 'Groups' now, some better than others.
Our epi and hoya society is now unfortunately rather Hoyacentric, but myself and Liz 'fly the epi flag' and there are a few more on our bandwagon!
We are the only remaining Epi society in Australia. Probably rather 'old school' but going strong and still friendly rather than dollar driven.

A very good selection of Aporos there Liz.
Strawberry fair is a Bob Funnel hybrid,(a real gent he is too). I have not seen the bloom before.
I also have trouble focussing on small blooms but your pics were good.
BTW as I understand it Aporocacti are the rattail cacti, Aporophyllums are hybrids of them.
i.e. Aporocacti x Epis.
