I have sprayed twice to prevent rust March 2020

I hope to stay ahead of the rust this year
It seems to happen to all of us in the southern states.

They are looking good and green and growing fast
as of April 4, today 2020.



the other bed was the one that I almost lost last year
I never could find out why except the fertilizer I had used
only l time in March to fertilize each hill burned them
here is the bed that have revived but it may never be
lush and big plants as it was for 10 or more years
until the fertilizer incident last March …

I used milorganite March lst this year for the lst time
on all the daylilys..both flower beds same amount
and yet look at the big bed versus the long narrow
bed with its lush and large ones...while the other
bed is stunted and died down to such small plants

that had been previously huge plants and lush
every year by May..

What type fertilizer did you use that burned the plants?

This is the baby seedlings planted Sept. 3 - 2019 one has bloomed and several have scapes.

With the warm winter we had and the good rains until this past month, the plants have thrived.
I actually have some 2019 seedlings with scapes already.

This bed is mostly Tim Bell plants I got last year, every plant in this small bed has scapes. One is nearly ready to bloom, right on the front you can the the large buds.

A majority of my plants now have scapes and I have had blooms already on about half a dozen named cultivars. The garden is looking good so far this year. I started spraying for rust back in Feb. the weather had been so warm.

Some of the seedling beds: You can see quite a few of them have also bloomed, most of those were 2018 seedlings and I don't think any of the 2017 seedlings have actually bloomed yet, odd.

My two Fulva beds are looking the best right now. Cleaned up the dead scapes and recycled them back around the plants. Top dressed them with Milorganite. Waiting for the rain later and tomorrow.

So the good thing about moving all of my daylilies last summer is- um, yeah, notadamnthing.

I was petrified that I'd lose a bunch to crown rot. I am happy to report that I lost a few seedlings to heaving and then rot, but it looks like everything else survived the winter in their new home.

I used some 10 10 10 that had sat in a barn that got really hot the previous summer in a closed bag...I think it burned them if not what caused
them to disappear and die or just knocked them back to one fourth the size
of plants they were the previous year.....

I enjoyed hearing from you all and seeing your pictures of your daylilys.

I never used to have it on any daylily I bought and grew
that was about 15 year ago..
I never sprayed for rust because back then I never had one get
rust on it ..really not even leaf streak..

What do you do for leaf streaking?

What year was it reported to have begun in the south on daylilys?

Daylily rust was first reported in the USA about 20 years ago. For leaf streak you can use fungicides if you wish. Some info here, including research on fungicides (scroll down the page):

As for growth on daylilies here - zero last time I looked but it's raining right now and supposed to turn to snow later.

Yesterday I had some new growth on my seedlings in the warmest part of the garden. Unfortunately, the deer had already found a couple of plants and nipped off the new growth I sprayed with Bobbex immediately after I discovered that, so I hope that discourages them.

We're supposed to get freezing temps on and off over the next few days and snow over the weekend

Snowing here too, the ground is white. It was supposed to only be rain until tonight!
