I know there used to be a raffle and acorns were used to buy tickets, but I have been busy for awhile and not as active here and no longer see the raffle. Is there another purpose for the acorns? Or is the raffle thing still going and I just can't find it?

I don't suspect there will be a raffle this year given COVID 19.

Sue was talking to me about it, and they hold the raffle-raffles yearly, when it used to be monthly. She didn't say it would be delayed (she also didn't say it wouldn't) so don't give up on it yet! I'm sure they have something in mind, and if not, there's always next year!

Acorns are just a fun addition to the site; we can give them to members for a particularly nice photo, or for information they post, etc. If and when there is anothr Not-A-Raffle-Raffle, acorns can be used to purchase tickets in hopes of winning one of the great prizes that are donated by some very generous vendors!

Acorn tips are a way to put a link to somebody's post (or a database comment or picture) into a special "Recently Tipped" section on the home page for others to discover and enjoy. A way of sharing your enthusiasm for what other people have done. That's the only place I use my acorns and I enjoy seeing what other people like.

Not everyone sees the Recently Tipped section, I edited my Home page and deleted that option in favor of other options.
Only @Dave or Trish knows if we will have another raffle this year.

To answer your question . .. nothing.

's are fun for anyone to enjoy or not, it's up to the individual. For those who do enjoy the fun of acorns, whether stashing them away for future possible raffles, etc., or tossing them at other members for a particular comment, information shared, photo, etc. it's just a little addition to the fun of this gardening site!

Some members may not find collecting acorns useful but we all have the option of giving them away if we don't want them. Perhaps at some point in time, management will be able to offer an opt out for those who don't find collecting acorns fun.

I don't know whether we'll do a raffle this year or not. With covid and everything that it has done to the gardening industry, I'm very hesitant to give it a try.

I agree, although it's sad. It's not a good time to be asking business people for donations!

The raffles are lots of fun and who doesn't like "Free" but if at all possible, I think we should be spending money to help small businesses right now!

From what I've seen, the gardening business is booming (at least those who deal in seeds and plants)!

My favorite local nurseries are doing better business now than they were before, from what I can tell. I have done my best to support them.

Same here, all the local nurseries remained open, they can barely keep up the the fruit and veggies supplies. I've visited Annie's Annuals twice.
