Thank you! I am a sucker for the David Austin type roses. The Romanticas and Delbards outperform my Austins which aren't doing well as cut flowers. I have installed umbrellas above some roses to shelter them from the afternoon sun. My constantly blooming roses are Osiana, Tournament of Roses, Pink Intuition, Penthouse, Yves Piaget, and Duet. Luckily my Chrysler Imperial and Mr. Lincoln are improving with the umbrella coverage. (Both have such amazing scents that I can't choose which one I prefer) Happily my most recent backyard plantings, Souer Emmanuelle and Princess Alexandra of Kent, are thriving with a few hours of shade. I thought I had planted Chartreuse de Palme, but I was sent the wrong rose. Anyone know where this rose can be purchased? It's very difficult to locate.
In the partial shade part of my front yard, Tamora, Ambridge Rose, Charles Rennie Macintosh, and Liv Tyler are almost always blooming. Bronze Star is in sun, next to Graham Thomas. Bronze Star is outperforming Graham Thomas to the point of me considering removing Graham Thomas. I cut back The McCartney Rose by about a third as it was a giant taking over everything around it. Time will tell if this was a wise move. Evelyn and Mary Rose are doing much better than usual. Olivia Rose Austin and Scelptur'd Isle both had a good spring flush, but not much since then. Close to them, The Ingenious Mr. Fairchild, is in constant bloom and sending out octopus shoots daily. My best Austin, hands down, is Wise Portia which has roots in the shade of the house's eaves, but leans into the sun with blooms. Fantastic color and lots and lots of long lasting roses. Highly recommend this rose if you can duplicate the growing situation. Pretty Jessica is next to Wise Portia and producing lots of blooms and healthy leaves. Next to Wise Portia on the other side, is Lover's Blush which is higher than my roof. It's doing well after it was cut back and cleaned out.
Complete duds--The Huntington Rose which is covered in very green and healthy growth without a rose in sight. Perhaps too much shade.
Mrs. Joseph Bonnaire is a complete rust magnet but might be suffering from too much shade also. (I cannot find any info on this rose so I don't know if it's prone to rust. Any data would be appreciated.)
Once again, suggestions for heat loving, scented, good cut roses are sought. Thank you.
