We are so done with 2020! 2020 is so yesterday!!
And now we are looking at January 2021 and a new thread not only for the month, but the start of a healthy and happy New Year!

Let me start with my old Rlc Green-heart 'Amy', I am happy to see this one opening just in time!


Guarthroleya Judy Congdon aborted two spikes a couple of months ago, but it decided to bloom from another growth and I see two more spikes in the works.


Vandachostylis Charm 'Blue Star' blooms again


and I am really amazed how long-lasting the blooms are on this Vandachostylis Viboon Velvet, still hanging on for quite a few weeks now.

It's wonderful to see your Viboon Velvet and all those spikes still looking so fresh and pretty, and Judy Congdon is just plain gorgeous...love those colors and I bet she's fragrant too!
I've got a bunch of reruns that are still looking good and one new one that has been trying to open for about three weeks now. The cold REALLY does stunt that process.

I was so happy to see your Waianae Leopard by Why Not cross. I was able to get one of these from Fred Clarke. I saw it on a "sale list" and thought it sounded intriguing! It is a very nice, round flower with a gorgeous lip.
C. Life's Melody is very pretty. It has very large and full petals. I would like a little broader lip but the color combination is striking!

Glenn, you definitely need a Cymbidium King Arthur 'Roundtable'. My picture doesn't do this justice, the green was almost a Granny Smith apple green.

'Kudos' is one of my new varieties that I started from compot two years ago, Johannian. This is now an NBS plant so I hope for blooms in 2021.

Thanks, @Johannian. I have 19 other varieties that are the same as the 'Kudos', at or near Near Blooming Size. One of them, B. Little Stars 'Yasuji Takasaki' bloomed in November, ahead of the others. It's a challenge to grow them from their infancy, but fun as well.

It sure is a pretty plant! Hope you get tons of blooms from it this year.

Somewhere this Summer I picked up this Rhynchostylis gigantea from Dearborn market/ a nursery near my daughter. I had one years ago, which never bloomed. Well, I am trying again! It is now blooming, it /we managed 2!! blooms! Maybe it will do better next year!

Pretty one, love those rich purples, and the white markings are nice.

My silly little NOID has opened it's second flower. Lindsey, didn't you have one that looks something like this?

Ursula, how large are those flowers? They look huge.
It can't really get a handle on just how large that they are. The species in all of its color forms are all about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" wide. Those look much larger.
Gigantea can flower at a young age. The reds and the spotted clones are a little easier to flower. The alba and peach colored forms are a bit more difficult to bloom. The peachy colored flowers often approach 2" in width.
BUT my first reaction was larger flowers! Could this be a hybrid? Ultimately they bloom with 20-30 flowers per. They often start with 5-8.
One possibility is if the flowers are big, could we be looking at a tetraploid or a really nice line-bred gigantea.
It is gorgeous in any event!!

I can't remember if it opens dark and turns lighter or not mine hasn't bloomed in a while.

I'm with Bill on those Rhynchostylis gigantea flowers...they look like a species Phal. at first glance..What do you think of the fragrance Ursula?
