Does anyone here grow any of his daylilies? We're thinking about getting something from him for our club plant program and can't decide.

I have two, but got them late in the season (late Sept). He gave me a great bonus plant. They have all grown well so far. He was super nice and helpful to speak to and he has very precise details on everything down to rust resistance.

My wife ordered me another one for Xmas that is coming in the spring.

I've spoken to him a couple of times and he knows his plants. His goals for hybridizing are admirable and he addresses something that is seldom addressed by many others in the south and that is heat resistance. A faded out, limp bloom by mid afternoon for any amount of money is no bargain. I hope more people try him and report on how his do...................Maryl

I went to Ron Reimer's sight and saw immediately why I had none of his plants and they had not been on my radar. He just does dips and I am mostly just buying tets, but do still trade for dips. So that cut out my main interest (Sculpted Relief). But I am very interested now that I read what he breeds for, rust resistance and sun fastness. So I may soon end up with at least a few of his dips in my garden after I decide just which ones to try.
I looked over the list and was surprised at the prices on some of the older (2015) plants, and a little disappointed in the branch count and bud count on some of the plants. Now that may just be because I am used to looking at the Pierce and Stamile branch and bud counts which I have yet to come close to with the plants grown in my own garden. I am still hopeful!
So I will definitely be keeping an eye out in the gardens I visit and looking for some of Ron Reimer's plants, and would be interested in trades if anyone is interested.

Larry: I know you had/have an interest in rust resistance in particular, and I would think his might really tempt you. He's been growing for many many years and not introducing ones for sale just trying very hard to get to the point he thought his were worthy. He's not a young man, and I hope, if his plants merit it, they aren't almost lost like Bud Bennetts were after his passing.......I do agree with you about the pricing. It does seem a little high on some of them, but that's his call. I knew someone who just paid $500.00 for a single fan, so they don't look that horrible after hearing that........Maryl

I'll let you all know on performance, bud count, etc.. I have three in the ground and one coming. I'll take pictures.

I was thinking that someone had posted a link to Ron Reimer's sight already, but I didn't see it when I just looked so if not here it is.

For those that didn't notice, there is an hour + long video showing seedling beds and selection beds. I thought after watching the video that I am very generous with the spacing of my seedlings, I don't know how you even walk through a bed like that to see the blooms and make selections. Thousands of seedlings in very small space, I never would have guessed they would have been planted so close.

Hi--just found this year-old thread when I was looking for something else.

I don't know how I missed it the first time as I have been on the hunt for rust-resistant daylilies.

I ordered two to try this spring and will be happy to report back on how they do.

His DLs have done very well for me so far. All of them have bloomed in the first season.

That is great to hear, Jason! When I emailed Ron awhile ago about ordering, I asked if he knew how his daylilies were likely to do in the South. He told me he wasn't sure but knew that someone in Texas was growing some. He must have meant you!

I'm glad to know they have done well for you so far. That is very encouraging.

I planted Circles and Beyond last August ( I picked up a flowering plant from CT Daylilies when I visited Rich Howard). It's quite beautiful and I'm looking forward to seeing how it survives the winter. I like that it's a late bloomer.

@Hazelcrestmikeb,
I had not really paid it any attention. So I went back to look, it is pretty and has a lot of great traits, it is "Sculpted", but it has pleated sculpting and not the relief type of sculpting I am interested in. I have not purchased any plants with pleated sculpting. I may be totally off base, but I have been thinking I would avoid pleated sculpting and cristate sculpting, thinking that if I brought those in I might get a lot of that instead of relief sculpting. I possibly could be cutting down my chances of getting relief sculpting...not sure. It does seem to me that it is much easier to get plants showing pleated and cristate sculpting that it is to create plants with relief sculpting. I do like a lot of the pleated sculpted blooms, still not a big fan of the majority of cristate blooms yet.

That's funny. My wife got me two for my birthday last year and I've purchased three from him as well.

He's been very accurate on the rust resistance.

Here are rose pink sparkle and Malibu sunset. Rose Pink Sparkle put up constant blooms for over a month. I'm guessing 25ish. It was a beast in it's first year. I got Malibu Sunset in March and it put up about 12-15 flowers. Blackberry Tart put up about 10, but some of them were low and in the greens. It isn't in the best spot though. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more in the future.

Robert, someone is selling a few of his 2021 releases for half his own price on the Lily Auction.
I imagine his prior intros are going to be even cheaper than that, there.
Supporting a hybridizer is important, so they keep creating masterpieces, but sometimes not always possible.
Ron very kindly placed me on a waiting list for a couple of his new/future intros. I am excited to wait in anticipation.
