I got plants from Ron last summer also.

Gemstone Red
Rose Pink Sparkle
Purple Sails
Malibu Sunset
Cosmic Fireball

Buyer Beware- I ordered newer plants at half the price from "someone in California" on the LA a few years ago. Just 2 plants
of the same one. The following year when they bloomed, one of them was not what I ordered. I contacted him, and he never
did replace the plant. I blocked him. And I am fairly sure we are talking about the same guy...

Ron Reimer has an hour long garden video on his website, and I have watched it 20 times. Unfortunately, he keeps seedlings
that I'm not crazy about, and tosses the ones that stop my heart! I think he told me last year that he is 82 (?) and that deserves
the extra cost all by itself.

The person I mentioned is in FL (Abundantdaylilies). I guess they are really testing the "rust-resistance" claims there.
Plus, to be fair to Ron they sell 1 fan for the half-price. I am sure Ron provides double-fans mostly. That is definitely a disclaimer that has to be said. Get half the daylily, for half the price. Is a good deal for the patient penny-wise only.

Some of these pictures need to be uploaded to the database! I don't think many of Ron's listings have pictures.

LOL! When I got plants from Abundant a few years ago, he really got me on shipping, and the 7 fans I ordered all fit in one
clenched fist, with the largest one being the size of a Sharpie marker. He said they had a bad year... REALLY? This was the
first part of May when my plants here in Ohio were huge already. I don't fool around with these people, and I blocked him too!
If he had advertised the plants as being very small, I would have gotten them elsewhere. I told him that I would never order
from him again, and I meant it! I am not saying that other people might have great results when buying from him, but I didn't.
It only takes once!

I have already asked Ron if I could upload his pictures to our database, he politely declined. I absolutely love his collection. Unfortunately for me, he only works with Diploids. I have too much already invested with Tets.

That's too bad. However, I think most of the pictures in this thread aren't from his website but are members' own photos.

I don't understand the reasoning behind any hybridizer not allowing their pictures to be shared on public platform with their permission. I believe the free advertisement should be worth it on this worldwide platform. Heck, he could join for free and upload them himself. I'm sure that he has his reasons. I do agree that some plants being sold are on the meager side. Obviously cost to the buyer is the contributing factor. Shipping is a whole other subject. It definitely does not hurt to shop around.

I agree Mike.
I don't even consider a purchase without first looking at the data base entry for a cultivar. If I were a seller I would frantically try to get my product presented here.

I read a story of a hybridizer who once donated plants to a club sale, when a photo of one of his plants was presented in the plant sale slide show , it was not to his liking, so he left in a huff and withdrew all his plants.
I can see where people would be concerned about people posting the wrong cultivar, and maybe some not very flattering photos. But I also think by and large those problems could be corrected and the good would by far outweigh the harm. I have also spoken to hybridizers who did not want others posting photos of their plants on this site. It always seemed strange to me, I think garden.org has to be one of the most viewed sites for looking at daylily photos.

If I own a plant and take a picture of it no one is going to tell me what not to do with it. Utter nonsense. Maybe they have a hard on for Dave. Rolling on the floor laughing Who knows.

In all honesty I always try to post the best picture of a plant in my garden. Unless we are doing a ugly post or something of that nature. Every now and then I slip up nodding

I don't think anyone who takes a picture of a plant they own should feel guilty about uploading it in the database, especially if there aren't any pics already of that plant.

Now that I know that Ron does not want us uploading his pictures of his plants, I won't ask him if I can. I'm sure he has his reasons. But I'll certainly post my own as soon as I get some decent ones.

I was thinking one possible reason for not wanting more publicity is they are happy with the volume of sales he already has and doesn't want more. Hybridizers may have some age on us or may have mobility issues or other detriments to operate full boar.
God blessed me with dirt.

It could be something as simple as Ron not having taken the photos for his website himself, so the copyright does not belong to him to give permission to publish.
Many people are bad at snapping photos and get others to do it for them.

I am just reporting on the daylilies I ordered from Ron. I ordered Peach Preserves and Ethereal Lavender and received Strawberry Smoothie as a bonus. All three were very large, healthy plants when I received them, and they are all growing well. Strawberry Smoothie and Ethereal Lavender have scapes. I am posting a picture of a scape on Ethereal Lavender because to me it is an astonishing scape for a diploid:

Nan, how did this blooming season go for your Reimer daylilies? I noticed that there still aren't any photos for several of his crosses, and I would love to see them as they bloom in other's gardens -- it helps me with my wish list. Smiling

I'm glad to report on Ron's daylilies, at least the ones that I have. On the whole I am happy with them although several that he marketed as rust-resistant weren't here, probably because they were exposed to different rust strains than Ron has.

The best plant I have of Ron's is Blackberry Tart. In its first season here it bloomed and rebloomed beautifully and displayed not a speck of rust.

Cosmic Fireball had beautiful blooms but more rust than I was comfortable with. I'm not sure I am going to keep it. I am going to give it another season.

Malibu Sunset: nice blooms, no rust.

Strawberry Smoothie: got rust in both seasons.

Ethereal Lavender: really nice blooms last year. This year blooms were down in the foliage. Both years it showed some rust late in the season.

Flying Fox: no rust, blooms a bit misshapen in its first season.

Peach Preserves: gorgeous blooms but not many. No rust. I hope this one settles in and performs well because it's beautiful.

Shaggy Pumpkin: I got this one late in the season after it became available. (I had been on a waiting list.) It did bloom in its first season and has shown no rust. No pleating yet but the plant is young.

I got Purple Sails as a bonus this year. No blooms yet.

I have uploaded bloom pics for most of these in the database.
