Thread OP
PA (Zone 6a)
I am seeing conflicting information about growing this variety from seed. More sites say that it's better to start these indoors. But some other places are saying that rudbeckia needs a period of cold stratification, so that should make it a good candidate for winter sowing, right? Please share your experiences with this variety--either winter sowing or starting indoors. Thanks for your help!

I always wintersow Rudbeckia. I had 85% germination on Cherry Brandy last year. I wintersow anything that I find reseeds itself easy in my area. Or things that come back to life early in the spring

The top picture is cherry Brandy. The bottom is Sahara. These were both put out in January last year in the zone 6.

I wintersow anything that reseeds, is perennial, or survives the first autumn frosts.

Rudbeckia wintersows with ease .

I saw some in the garden that must have reseeded so they should be up by now.

Some of my containers weren't sprouting then I moved them into full sun with more warmth and they came up in a few days.

Thank you. Only a few sprouted but hopefully, that will be enough to get them growing.

At the last house mine took a couple years to get going but once they were adjusted to my garden they reseeded by the hundreds.
