I'm going to order some wildflowers. I have two problems: minimum is 100 per variety (not a big deal) and there are 12 varieties that I am interested in: Whistling

- Dutchmans Breeches
- Jack-in-the-Pulpit
- Lobelia - Great Blue
- Lobelia - Red Cardinal
- Solomon Seal
- Trillium - Great White
- Trillium - Pink
- Trillium - Purple
- Trillium - Red
- Trillium - Yellow
- Virginia Bluebells (Mertensis virginiana)
- Wild Ginger (Asarem canadense) (Mine isn't spreading fast enough)

The cost is $79 per hundred, plus shipping from TN.

Some I can use 100 of, others, not so much. I was wondering if anyone was interested in splitting. Everything ships bare root.

They would be delivered in April, making them available in plenty of time for the swap. If you wanted them before the swap, we can arrange for pick-up at my place.

Not a big spender here, but I'd take 5 of any trillium. Or 10 (either the same kind of 5 each of 2 varieties). Wildflowers have the reputation of being hard to establish, not sure if that's more true for some than others... I've particularly heard that Jack in the Pulpit is very picky. Are either of those Lobelias hardy here?

I've got variegated Solomon Seal from Bluespiral in the front yard. Dug out a bunch of roots last fall that may or may not still be in a pot in the garage (should be dormant but viable if so)... I'm hesitant to offer anything I haven't already dug.

Do Virginia Bluebells and Wild Ginger perfer damp, or can they handle summer dry spells?

The original patch of wild ginger gets full sun all day and, Post-Larry, only gets water when it rains.

I got bluebells once at a swap, but left them where they ended up drowning.

OK, then I'd take some wild ginger also. between 5 and 15... I'm figuring on potting up 5 starts in a large pot and planting them out in fall. Joyanna can keep things watered on the deck or patio much more easily that "out there."

Enjoy!
I am still in my "do not overcommit' mode. And the bulk of my yard/gardens are chicken accessible.
Plant it and they will come.

Ok, so the red lobelia is hardy in zone 3, blue in zone 4, both for damp to wet soil... so they'd be good for my water gardens. I'd take 5 of both, or 10 if you order just one of them. I'll try to remember to pull them out of the pot over winter, which is where I've gone wrong in the past I bet. They do need to have their crowns above water, so I've half submerged them.

I'm interested in Virginia Bluebells. I have lots of hellebore baby plants to swap for bluebells. Light green and dark pink flowers

Welcome!

I don't know if Rick is doing a wildflower order this year -- he started this thread last year.

Will you be at the spring plant swap? We use the seed swap tool to pre-arrange some trades before the actual swap date... sometimes people offer bluebells. I know baby hellebores are always welcome!

I have blue bells, but not for swap, they like shady areas, and bloom now. They are so beautiful in https://northernvirginiamag.co...

One side they have the Blue Bells, and on the other side the pink Spring Beauty…..

I do not have enough space for anything right big groups now—-still have to dispose branches that were cut 2 weeks ago plus I need to still cut down some more volunteer young trees——and then clean everything, plus all the English ivy all over the place from my neighbor.
