Demetrius is probably one of my oldest Daylilies. It is a fabulous plant, always a heavy bloomer, with perfectly formed, ruffled yellow flowers. Some years they are more Golden, other years more lemony. Not sure why the color adjusts slightly.

Demetrius is also one of the most fragrant Daylilies in my garden, I would grow it for the scent alone, even if it wasn't such a nice healthy plant. I have divided it twice in 25 years but am never disappointed with the amount of bloom. Even though it's not a rebloomer, Demetrius still has a long season of bloom right in the middle and usually lasts for at least three weeks. I bought it on the recommendation of the Seawrights, who mentioned that Demetrius was used in a lot of their breeding programs for its good habits.

And I still love it, which is saying something!

Demetrius bloomed from June 24 to July 17 this year. After heavy division and giving some of it away to my neighbor, it wasn't quite up to its usual heavy blooming. I think it's still recovering, having never been divided before. But I bet it will go crazy next year.

I had Demetrius for many years in my early years with daylilies. It was always hardy and very good at increasing well. The flowers are a nice cheery bright lemon, and it was one of my favorite plants for a long time. I later faulted it for being quite short, and I wanted larger flowers, but it is a great plant.
