The thread on "Grandson Hayden" made me wonder about this. There are daylilies in the database with the names of both my kids, for example. I particularly like "Little Audrey" since not only is my daughter named Audrey, but also she's 4'10"! I have seen folks post pictures of this one, so it is obviously still around.

I recently bought a Louisiana iris called Kentucky Thoroughbred just for the name. I am a horse lover.

Any others? Have you ever acquired daylilies because you liked their names?

Fear Not. It was the title of a sermon I heard the morning of the day I went daylily shopping online, and I really like its bloom color and form anyway.

Indeed we have some small collections where names were the trigger to buy the plants.

Egypt mythology:
Apophis, Nefertiti, Tutankhamun, Eygyptian Queen, (Charon the Ferryman is greek but since Percy Jackson Greeks are cool too).

SciFi: Deflector Dish, Vulcan Logic, Cyber Zone, Dark Star, String Theory, Starman's Gift, Stargate Corridor

Fantasy: Elf Power, Magic Elf, Nutmeg Elf, Magician's Apprentice, Cast a Spell, Pixie Parasol, Witch's Thimble, Little Wizard, Avalon Cornish Pixie, Sun Pixie

Due to my name we have Sue's:
Katiesue Herrington
Little Sweet Sue
Susan Treadwell
Susan Weber
Suzy Cream Cheese

And just because for the funny sound of the name: Yabba Dabba Doo and Iwanna Piranha
Green Grin!

I bought Wolf Eyes and Lone Wolf because Wolf is a family name. I got rid of Lone Wolf because it bloomed down in the foliage.

But I love Wolf Eyes.

Nope. I pick an occasional daylily for a vase but have been known to choose one for its name.

This thread comes up again and again, because it is super-fun.
Here is one of the more recent ones (although I think there has been even another similar thread since then):

Guilty, LOL

Actually I bought three on that basis this year. First, 'Two Cats Laughing' but in my defense it was more or less the color I wanted.

A week after receiving those, I discovered Clement Daylilies website and realized that his 'Two Cats Dancing' was not only a better mental image but a better color also. Win-win, lol

And being a Marvel and DC fan, there was no way I was not going to have 'Hawkwoman" in my garden!

I have so far successfully resisted the temptation to buy a completely unsuitable tree peony based purely on its name: Tipsy Imperial Concubine. The plant itself tends to flop, and the flowers are so huge that the stems aren't strong enough to hold them anywhere near upright. It would work great on top of a terrace or anywhere else that it could be looked up toward, but I don't have any such place. That said, the ability to comment casually to guests "Excuse me, I just noticed that the Tipsy Imperial Concubine seems in need of a drink" would be priceless! nodding

And you can't forget the gorgeous bloom either!

I did no exactly "buy" it for its name, but "Buddy Hall" gave it to us club members when we visited him, BUDDY'S BETTY.

I read about a guy who had a baseball-themed DL garden. I don't remember where I read it. He collected daylilies with names like Home Run King and Earlybird Oriole. A lot were named after players. I wish I could remember them.

Clement certainly does have very unusual names--how many of you would like a daylily named Politicians Taste Funny?
