First pic is of flower/spathe taken a week ago

Next is looking down on mature 24" leaf
Third is the flower this morning, hasn't changed much. I'm confused by the filaments. Haven't seen them on other aroids.

Next are new leaves indicating "eyes" on the corm or new corms forming
Then a close up of the flower spike emerging from the space between the leaves

Last is an attempt to look inside the spathe.


The leaf petioles look ridged but are absolutely smooth. Also no prickles or bumps of any kind. This thing just popped up a year ago amongst my other aroids of this type and I thought I'd ID it when it flowered but I'm at a loss. Going through amorphophallus, dracontium and anchomanes one species at a time. Hoping someone can save me a little time.

WOW. I am stumped. Before I saw the inflo, I would have said maybe Gonatopus. That inflo should be a dead giveaway, its so unusual. I'm going to ask around.

I actually do not think its an aroid. I think its a Tacca (bat plant)

I showed your photos to Dr. Peter Boyce, who believes that your plant is a Tacca in the group of the species leontopetaloides. Not leontopetaloides itself, but similar. DO you have the provenance by chance of the surrounding plants?

It does look similar to Polynesian Arrowroot (Tacca leontopetaloides)

I believe that you are correct in the plant being a tacca. I should have figured it out from the tentacles. The plant was a volunteer in a pot with amorphophallus Konjak that I got from Tropiflora years ago and had a single divided leaf so I assumed it was an aroid like gonatopus or anchomanes etc. that have a single leaf. Thank you so much, now I can narrow my search to tacca species. Tacca also makes sense with the second leaf coming out where the bloom is emerging. I'll call Tropiflora and ask what tacca species they've carried in the past. Again thank you all!

I know they have carried leontopetaloides, I bought a few from them. But in years past they may have had some more unusual species. I bought a Xanthosoma from them in the 1990'a that I have never seen anywhere else again, Xanthosoma wendlandii. They used to offer a lot more than bromeliads, but in more recent times have paired down those offerings
