Sailor Sky has been in my garden for about three years, shared from a friend in Michigan. It has been a late season wonder, a great performer and has multiplied quite quickly. I'm impressed!

I'm a huge fan of Ginny Pearce and her daylilies. I have so many, for a while, i think I had more of hers than she did. Smiling

Sailor Sky is a burst of late season color. So many blooms, almost every day for me. Sailor Sky starts mid July for me most years, and goes until Mid August, averaging a little over 4 weeks per my stats... seemed longer in my head. I'm definitely getting 28 inches on the mature scapes. In past years, I would get high teens/low 20's bloom count on the best scapes. I should have counted last year, I'm sure the scape front and center in that picture up there is doing close to or better than that. I get 8-12 on the smaller, first timer scapes. All told, I noted 125 blooms last year. Almost 5 blooms a day. You can't miss this one, especially in mid August when things may be dying down elsewhere in the daylily bed.

I haven't used Sailor Sky as a parent, yet, but I think I just got some late seedlings that are worthy just last year. One of Sailor Sky's kids is Gigglefest, another of Ginny's plants. Sailor Sky definitely passed on the late-blooming and lots-of-blooms-each-day genes to that one.

I think I have had Sailor Sky 3 years now, it has grown to a large clump that I already shared. Not listed as a rebloomer, it has had a few additional blooms in late September and bloomed til frost the last 2 years. I am not really into the loud colors and prefer fancier flowers, but how can you not love this one. In the late garden, the flowers just glow. A heavy bloomer that bloomed over a month not counting those late blooms. I have set a few pods on it, but last year was a bad year for my seedlings. I think I lost all of Sailor Sky's. I have some seeds this year, but will be a while before I see blooms

Sailor sky is beautiful. I would add it into true garden without hesitation.

I ordered Sailor Sky in 2016 from Ginny Pearce and have loved this daylily ever since. Ginny gives a lot of thought to what she names her daylilies and she told me this one was named for the old adage: "Red sky at morning, sailors' warning. Red sky at night, sailors' delight". I think it fits perfectly!

7/03/17 - Pictures just don't do the vivid color justice on this one, but this is about as close to the real thing as I have gotten it. I made the mistake of putting Ginny's daylilies right around the edge of the driveway where everybody parks and hers are some of the first they see. I just have to say, "sorry, I'm not splitting that one yet", because they just make beautiful clumps and bouquets. However, I did give a start of this one to my daughter.

7/11/21 - Sailor Sky with another of Ginny's intros 'My Wish Tonight' (2012). As of March of this year, I have 13 fans of Sailor Sky (after giving a few fans to my daughter last year), so it has multiplied well. It recovered nicely and did well this year. The blooms are right at the 28" height and bloom nicely above the foliage.

I get about 3-way branching with 15-18 buds. While I have not seen the branching and bud count that Ginny stated, I planted these daylilies near a maple tree, so I am sure those tree roots have affected it. As I continue to downsize, I will be moving Ginny's daylilies to better spots.

7/06/20, about 6PM - Even though, the color fades some throughout the day, it is still a beauty. I guess it would be considered a late bloomer in my zone 6b garden. First bloom was June 26th this year and bloomed until at least August 2nd. 2020 it bloomed around the same dates. I have not seen rust on it.
