Hello! I have painted river rocks that I wasn't sure want to do with, so I placed them on the top of plants to deter cats from digging. The plants seem fine but long term is this okay to do? Will the rocks harm the plants in any way? One is a snake plant and one is a birds of paradise. Thank you for any help!

I have the same question because I added rocks to stabilize and prop up an Aglaonema plant that was starting to fall over.

Assuming they are painted with nontoxic acrylic like craft paints, they are pose no danger to the plants and are good to use for all the reasons you've both given. Over time, the paint might fade from repeated watering. I use rocks as mulch, stabilizers and decoration in my plants, mostly outdoors in larger pots, but also indoors, especially for new wobbly plantings like aloe or snake plants.

When I had cats, every indoor plant had a layer of shale over the soil to keep curious kitties from finding a new litter box. The only danger is the soil will dry more slowly so be careful not to overwater.

I do not see an issue, but as mentioned already, just be careful with watering. Actually I also put some big rocks on some plants indoors. If I lift a rock and see it is still damp below, it helps me see the media below is still damp, so I can delay watering a couple more days.
