Although this illustration was originally cited as depicting Cuphea jorullensis, it actually depicts Cuphea micropetala.
Cuphea jorullensis is a different species.

Candy Corn Plant (Cuphea micropetala)

I don't know what sources are used by the site you linked to. I did see that the PlantList listed this illustration as being a synonym for C. micropetala, but I'm told that the PlantList is outdated and unreliable.

Catalogue of Life does not have more than one listing for C. jorullensis, as can happen when an accepted name is used illegitimately.

Hooker states that it is "assuredly" the C. Jorullensis of Humboldt and Kunth, as described here:
https://www.biodiversitylibrar...

Hooker's description from Curtis's Botanical Magazine is at the following link:
https://www.biodiversitylibrar...

Either Hooker was incorrect when he said his figured plant was "assuredly" the C. Jorullensis of Humboldt and Kunth, or he was mistaken when he wrote that the C. eminens of Planch. et Lind. was a synonym...see the illustrations of C. eminens at these links:
https://www.biodiversitylibrar...

It might be best to delete the illustration if it can't be determined where it belongs. Confused

Cheers,
Virginia

Hi Virginia,

FYI, none of those links would work for me.

See the same Cuphea micropetala illustration here,
http://www.ogrod.uw.edu.pl/flo...

It was illegitimately titled "Cuphea eminens (C. Jorullensis)."

This is a different illustration of C. micropetala that was also published in 1861. You will notice that it is also illegitimately cited as being Cuphea jorullensis.

http://www.ogrod.uw.edu.pl/flo...

Under the list of "Name synonims" it says, "Cuphea jorullensis Hook. [Illegitimate]."

Cuphea jorullensis is a legitimate species, but it isn't the one depicted in the illustration. If you see a modern photograph it is fairly obvious.

Since I grow it, I know the illustration is spot on for Cuphea micropetala.

Taxonomy is far from static and corrections are constantly being made.
