It was illegitimately titled "Cuphea eminens (C. Jorullensis)."

This is a different illustration of C. micropetala that was also published in 1861. You will notice that it is also illegitimately cited as being Cuphea jorullensis.

Under the list of "Name synonims" it says, "Cuphea jorullensis Hook. [Illegitimate]."

Cuphea jorullensis is a legitimate species, but it isn't the one depicted in the illustration. If you see a modern photograph it is fairly obvious.

Since I grow it, I know the illustration is spot on for Cuphea micropetala.

Taxonomy is far from static and corrections are constantly being made.
