The Salvia was planted in the ground and had achieved a a very nice size by June 1st. The Agapanthus were potted and placed behind the Salvia. Over time the Salvia had "enclosed" the Agapanthus with its foliage.
Had the Salvia bloomed the Agapanthus would have been accented by indigo blue blooms and lime green calyxes from the Salvia.
Unfortunately, within a period of one week, the Salvia died... and that combination will have to wait on a re-try.
That's too bad... I think I would have liked this combination.

You may already know this, but just an FYI if you don't. Smiling
I'm not sure how long your particular Agapanthus blooms, but Salvia mexicana doesn't bloom until September or October under normal garden conditions.

I clearly did not do my homework on this plant... because I have no memory of its bloom season. I plan on trying it again... it is as striking in its way as is 'Black & Blue' Salvia.
Thanks, Danita, for the heads-up.
