I am finishing my orders soon. I noted than some of the cultivars I like (especially the new releases with many frills) seem kind of small when compared to older varieties (not truly " historics" but less recent offerings) and I am thinking that since I am new to gardening I should come and ask advice.

I kinda like these irises, but they seem small to me:

Probably it is something silly, but I prefer irises that look big...I might still buy them because they are gorgeous though...

What irises give very large flowers? so far I think dusky challenger is on my list because of that...can you please recommend more irises with XL blooms?

Do remember, though, that the bigger the bloom, the more likely it is that it will be floppy.

Floppy, meaning not just the stems, but also the flower itself. The form could cave in on itself.

Applied Science has had very large blooms several years in a row. I know I have had others but I can't recall off the bat.

Big Boss is impressive!

Applied Science is also very nice:

Thank you girls! I will be looking for these irises.

If you ever have a seedling making huge flowers, I propose a name:

"Big daddy"

"Big Daddy" is already a registered name, for an arlbred iris.

Crying Crying Crying

I looked at the pictures. It is pretty. Well I am glad I don't have a job naming irises. I wanted to say, well then lets call it ( my imaginary Iris) "big momma" but there are other plants with that name.

Rolling my eyes.

Remember one thing about IRIS . The bigger the bloom the stronger the stem has to be so it doesn't fall over in a windy area. I never grow any over 36 inches because of this factor .

No picture, just do a search for "Vanity" iris on search engine to get images of this.
It's an older variety, tall and has big with fluffy pink blooms that smell heavenly.
