I was wondering if this is actually the same plant

Pastel

and

'Nouveau Pastel'

Both by same hybridizer one in 1956 Nouveau -- one in 76 Pastel

Just wondering. Shrug!

They are not the same...Marilyn I noticed that hybridizers often have a theme when naming their plants - for example Clint is going to use "solid gold" as his naming theme Thumbs up Rolling on the floor laughing

I think I have just the one but some of my noids look kinda like that so have been wondering.

If you look at the database pictures you will see they seem to be quite a range of coloration and kinda look alike

depending on which photo you look at. The Nouveau came with a label from SMG so am pretty sure it is what it is Hilarious! Hilarious!

I was updating my plant lists and noticed I had the Nouveau and had a want for the Pastel. There in I became confused

Edited to add a bit of explanation

Clint, If you crossed those two varieties, would you name it Sempervivum 'Kung Pou Chicken'?

Btw I noticed that Nouveau Pastel is listed as being a cross between Pastel and Bronze Pastel, which would make sense except that Pastel has an intro date of 76 and Nouveau Paste's release is 56. So what gives? Confused Did Nicholas Moore just not release pastel until years after he'd hybridized it?
These are cool plants, but I do have trouble telling them apart.

Well now that is interesting.
@JungleShadows
Kevin do you have catalogs that can help straighten this out?

Release dates are a big help when sorting out related plants. I've been paying close attention to the dates on plants in the Gustaaf Van Der Steen lines to sort out a timeline in his selection process and make conjectures on other plants I believe to be closely related. I just got Nouveau Pastel from SMG because the picture showed a bit more color than the other pastels. Originally I'd thought it was as the name suggests, his most recent. Upon further inspection I noticed the temporal inconsistency, mulled over the purchase for a couple days, then bought it anyway.

Excited to hear what you guys can dredge up, until then I'll be wondering which of my plants is the chick and which is the hen.

Sol,

Yes the dates are often wrong on the German sites. I know that MOST of the ones of mine are wrong. Erwin had worked with me a few years ago to get them corrected.

Unfortunately Lynn I was only "a gleam in my parent's eye" in 1953! Those were ones that had made only a limited appearance in the US when I was working on them back then.
