The arrival of June has taken me by surprise. May flew by so quickly. The main flush of my roses continues, but the sun is taking its toll and the blooms don't last as long on the bush as they did in the middle of May.

The thumbnail photo this month is Sunny June, a big and beautiful Lammerts shrub dating back to the early 1950s.

What a lovely "single" yellow; I love the color and the golden stamens.

Continuing Zuzu's musical theme, "June is bustin" out all over!" (except it did it a month ago.) As a child, I thought when I heard that song that June was a person...

I agree with Mike that this month's rose is lovely and well named too - Sunny describes its color perfectly. I am also rather partial to single blooms.

Some roses amazed me this year. Probably because we have a cool, wet, long spring and they get more mature (second year in the ground), they look much prettier than last year.

South Africa, definitely more petals.

Bolero, the very first time it showed the peachy center.

Mary Rose, flower size doubled.

Pretty Lady, got moved because we needed to fix the drainage pipe, rebounds so well.

"Blessed Child", mislabeled rose from RVR.

Ash Wednesday. It sent several 12'+ basal canes in three years. Sadly it's almost naked now since we've had too much rain. Still my favorite.

Lady of Shalott and Rhapsody in Blue update. Love them so much!

My first bloom from Crawfish Etouffee. Poor baby has black spot. I look forward to seeing how this one changes as the plant gets mature.

I think the soap and water black spot treatment is working for me. Some of the roses are getting new leaves and also blooming.

Aerith, I just got South Africa from Palatine this year, and I loved its first blooms. I had never seen it in person before. I hope mine grows up to look just like yours... very inspiring!

Susan, South Africa is so great that when it's in flushes, it seems to glow in my garden. And it is very vigorous and has been one of the healthiest roses here. Even though we got tons of rain, there is no problem at all. Given that it's a yellow rose, that's quite an achievement.

Thank you Margie! Here are a few other photos...

This is part of the garden I call "Hybrid Tea Row," but in truth it also has some Floribundas...

And here's a view from the upper garden looking down to the lower courtyard garden, and out across the Hudson River to Dunderburg Mountain. That's Red Ribbons in the foreground, one of the best ground cover roses I've ever grown, and is ideal for hillsides.
