An intensely deep purple. It won't wow you with bud count, but has stayed around for a reason. Shy of 30 inches here.

I do love this daylily!
I measure the scapes this year at about 27" or 28" but when I grew it in partial shade, it was taller. I appreciate the green/chartruese throat and striking transition to royal purple on cool mornings. It is very dark- darker than pictures display- and there aren't too many good, dark rebloomers. I wish it had more branching; the bloom action all happens at the top. It's forgivable, though. Stately presentation.

I have had MEPHISTOPHELES in my garden for 20 plus years. I grow it in partial afternoon shade, so it still looks good when I get home from work. Branching and bud could be better, but I love the color. On cool mornings, it is more gray/purple. Once the sun hits it and the temps increase, it becomes saturated with purple. I don't have any plans on removing it from the garden any time soon. All of the pictures are a good representation of how MEPHISTOPHELES looks in my garden.
