I received the reblooming variety Immortality as an unexpected extra in one of my iris orders. I've never grown a rebloomer before so I just have a few questions!

- Is there any extra care steps for a reblooming iris/something to increase the chances of it reblooming?
- After some preliminary research, I've learned immortality is a good rebloomer...anyone else in zone 6b have luck with it/what timeframe is the rebloom?

Thanks!

Belle ~ Welcome! to the Iris Forum! Hurray!

I grow this one in zone 8. So far, it has not rebloomed for me. I would also like to know how to maximize my rebloomers.

Have them in a separate bed where you can give them more water than the non-rebloomers like.

It may not rebloom the first year in your gardens. It took a year to perform here. zone has been changed to 6a north of Boston, but I see it all over the place in Aug.

I have some reputed to be rebloomers, but refuse to baby them with separate beds and extra water. I am in 7a, close to the border with 6b. Of the several I have, only one has actually rebloomed and I culled it because I didn't like the form, nor the intense shade of yellow. I prefer very light yellows or very light oranges. They light up the garden without clashing.

It was odd seeing a rebloomer all by its lonesome on days when it was so cold that I had no desire to be out in the garden. All the rest of the garden was dormant. I'd prefer that irises all save their strength for putting on an amazing show in May, when I can enjoy being out there with them.

Most rebloomers do not have the type of form that I like. Perhaps when hybridizers have worked longer on improving their form, I might like them better, but I think I'll be long gone by then.

I am in zone 6A. I have several re-blooming iris and have never successively had one re-bloom. Even in wet years where they receive a lot of water.

I think they are over-rated for places like Maryland and parts north of here. I am over 74, have lived and gardened in Maryland all my life, and the only reblooming iris I have ever seen bloom in this state was in my own garden. Now culled because I felt the form was not good.

The only. successful rebloomer I have grown is Daughter of Stars. It didn't get any special treatment.

One year it bloomed continually from December to April. When it is happy, it is very happy!

My yellow rebloomer NOID was thought by most here to be Harvest of Memories.

Last summer I planted Daughter of Stars and am still looking forward to its first bloom. I am also still awaiting first bloom on Double Platinum, another reputed to be a rebloomer.

Champagne Elegance, Coral Chalice, and Royalty Remembered have all bloomed in my garden, but none have ever rebloomed for me as they are reputed to do.

So yes, I do have a few reputed as rebloomers, but they don't rebloom here. Heaven knows we do get a lot of rain in our summers, so I'm not really sold on rebloomers. If they are pretty, I'll buy them, but in my view they get no added points for being rebloomers because generally they won't here.

Immortality seems to have some merit besides reblooming, so I'll give it a shot and see if I like it. Guess I should consider reblooming an extra perk than a guaranteed!

Also Andrea, Daughter of Stars is beautiful! I can't believe it bloomed continuously from December to April. Definitely don't live in a climate where it'd be happy enough to do that for me, but I enjoy seeing the pictures!

The rebloomers are a hit and miss here, for sure.

PEGGY SUE took a couple of years before I saw any rebloom out of her, and then it was only for a couple of years. It could probably use dividing.

LUMINOSITY, SDB BLUE OASIS are sometimes rebloomers here, but at odd and unpredictable times.

GOLDEN IMMORTAL has rebloomed at least a few years here, despite being in a rather shady bed.

I agree that some of the rebloomers do so at unfortunate times. SNOW DAY has bloomed here in January or February, if memory serves (I can't find pics). While that sometimes works here, I'm sure it wouldn't in other climates.

For sure, the rebloomers are lagging in beauty when it comes to form.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

We grow quite a few rebloomers, here in zone 5, and usually have quite a bit of luck with them...best I can tell you is *most* need extra TLC, for any real success. I grow them, mostly,in their own beds. Fertilizer schedule somewhat different from the "spring only" irises...more water during the summer. That said, I have some "waifs&strays" planted "here&there", that rebloom, pretty faithfully, with no extra care. "Immortality" seems to do pretty well "by itself", most years, and also seems to need division every 2-3 years, in order to rebloom. I agree, the "form"on "Immortality" leaves a lot to be desired...it's pretty "floppy", but it's a good "starter" Re, as is "Earl Of Essex"

So what fertilizer do you use and when? I have a few (9) known to rebloom in zones 4 and 5. 3 years now and still waiting. Could you share your TLC process?
