It's a Geranium geranium, not a Pelargonium geranium. Pelargoniums are annuals there, but Geraniums will grow where it snows.

The "weed" plant looks like an Erechtites.

The other plant is a bit too ragged to say for sure, but it resembles
Celandine Poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum)

The shape of the lowest leaf is wrong for Geranium.

Is it growing in a wooded area?

I agree with Danita; doesn't look like Geranium. Very similar, but my mom grows many geraniums and pelargoniums every year and it just doesn't look like either. I guess it could be a wild variety.

Compare:

Looks similar, but as you can see, it's not exactly the same.

My son and his family recently bought this property .. it's growing on the side of his house in a narrow developed bed ..with edgeworthia, lenten rose, fern and hosta ..it's a shaded area . in planned community ..and so not likely wild.
I guess we will have to watch it and see what develops. Thanks! I will leave this up a bit longer to see if more ideas.

You can buy Celandine Poppy to plant in shade gardens. Although native, it's not exclusively found in the wild.

I agree with celandine poppy. In my wooded property, they grow rambunctiously - to the point that I pull most which appear near less vigorous plants. But the flowers are pretty and plants are easy to pull, so in the wilder areas of my yard, I leave them to do their thing.

I agree the Stylophorum, a fave of mine (not the imported wood poppy, which has invaded the woods here)
Plant it and they will come.
