I just picked up my order from Nonni's Daylily Garden. It was waaay out in the country, about a 30-minute drive for me. I had a wonderful talk with Karen Cotton, who runs the garden with her husband (and whom I met briefly, too). Such warm, nice people! Karen told me all about the Ogeechee Daylily Club and was very encouraging about my joining. It's a small club with about 30 members on the books though they don't all attend regularly. She invited me to the meetings but said the next couple would be really busy because they are getting ready for a show. It sounds fun, though. She said most members don't hybridize (she does not, either, though their place is a display garden) but are just enthusiasts and growers like me. They do have some well-known members.
I did not look around the property much since nothing much is blooming yet. I saw enough to tell that it will be gorgeous within the next month or so. She said May-June is the height of bloom season. They have a clump sale in the spring; I may go to that although I already got the ones I really wanted.
My order was all ready for me to pick up. The plants looked so fresh and healthy; she had dug them that morning. She was very generous--everything was at least a triple fan, and Cast a Spell was nine fans! I am happy. They do ship orders, if anyone is wondering.
I have a picture of the order but am having a little trouble uploading for some reason. Will try again later. Then I will plant my new babies!
I got All About Eve, Dorothy and Toto, Cast a Spell, and You Angel You.
