I guess most people would consider this weed and it is invasive ... but I'd really like to try growing it and eating it. does anybody have any ideas how I could get some seeds or starts?

You don't want it! Believe me!

In Minnesota it is illegal to import, sell or transport. It is considered a noxious weed.

I tried this once. It was neither attractive, nor did the taste appeal - not much taste at all, actually. Let's let Nature decide where plants will grow, or not.

Maybe try growing it in a pot and stay on top of deadheading long enough to taste it, but still preventing it from escaping into the yard.

Trust me you do not want it , all over the place around here and very hard to kill. Pull it up out of the ground and it keeps going till it seeds.

Gotta tell ya... This experiment sounds like one of those things best done on someone else's dime...

Do you ever travel?

On the next camping / fishing trip out east... nothing like doing a bit of foraging in the campground...

It doesn't grow here either... but there are plenty of other wild edibles that I can cook up in the steamer...

I was showing someone some edibles the other day... The question came up... Why do you feed the chickweed to the chickens?
The answer was to pull some for a taste test... A few leaves, and answer was obvious...
Eat the lambsquarter, let the chickens have the chickweed.

In Missouri? Plant lambsquarter, Sochan, and bidens... Actually, shouldn't need to plant any of them... just go out and forage.

I agree, if you are good at ID, look for it and taste first.
A park near here has had a 'pull GM" event and cook, I think they posted cooking some to add to a potluck after, I never attended. Shrug!

Of the wild 'edibles' I have tried, most teach me the difference between 'edible' and 'tasty.' Or at least, you'll have to acquire a taste. The same amunt of effort could be more satisfying with some known crop.

But hey, curiosity.. Shrug!
Plant it and they will come.

Do NOT become the source of another garlic mustard outbreak that will inevitably spread to incredible proportions. It's ILLEGAL for a reason!
