Can anyone please offer some advice concerning this nasty stuff? I have applied a Scotts preemergent product with little effect on this weed. I have had this issue in the past but not as bad as it is this season.

Close ups would help but I wonder if it's chickweed? Has a similar appearance from a distance but close up pictures would help with more positive ID.

Chickweed does not last long. By the time your grass gets going, it will die out.

nature keeps amazing me
Should you decide to tackle it's removal by hand just be sure to get all it's roots or it will come back. I had a huge chickweed problem and went after it by hand. 3rd try and it's just about gone. I don't bother with it if it's growing through the "grass". It will go away on it's own or not. As long as the "lawn" is green and I keep it mowed I'm good.

Thank God for the chickweed... If it wasn't for that stuff you'd have bare soil...

Best solution for chickweed? Pull and feed to the chickens.
We can eat chickweed too... But outside of tasting it from time to time, I have yet to find a way to make it pleasing to my palate...
You may decide that it's a nice addition to your table... Some people seem to relish eating nice fresh chickweed!

There's a trick to successfully removing chickweed... You have to lift various sections of the plant, and find where it is rooted... And then grasp the plant as close to the ground as you can.

I've tried turning chickweed under... Sounds good, right? Fertilize the garden by tilling in the plants?
Chickweed thrives on such treatment... All the broken pieces root and become new plants!
