Hi Bonbon,

Welcome! Welcome! Let me try to answer your question...

It looks like the rules have not been posted for this swap yet. BUT, it will probably be just like every other swap that DND has hosted over the years. So, I looked at last year's rules and this is what it says about how many seeds are required to participate in this swap:

"Minimum Seed Packet Entry: Members are encouraged to offer as many seed packets as they feel comfortable with. The more that are contributed, the better the swap will be for all participants. The minimum packet contribution is currently only set at 3 packets (of any quantity and type). If the average number of contributions per person falls below 20 packets, however, the host may postpone or cancel the swap or the host may request that participants contribute more packets in order to continue the swap."

Three packets of seeds of any type is all you would need to join in the fun. Hurray! I hope you will consider joining. I love sharing seeds and will have lots of seeds to share.

I see that you are interested in irises (from your other post). There are usually iris seeds being offered in this swap, although I don't have any myself.

I agree

Swap newbies aren't expected to contribute much, although some dive in with tons of offerings.
You may be able to collect some nice cactus or desert wildflower seeds out there in AZ to offer in the swap. The main thing is to identify them correctly.
The iris seeds found in this swap are usually few, and tend to be mainly Louisiana irises.
If iris seed is all you want, try the iris forum or the trading forum. If you would enjoy trying a variety of seeds, join us. Smiling

Hi Anne, there are usually a good amount of heirloom tomatoes being offered! I always offer quite a few myself. Smiling This year I have 12 varieties growing so they will hopefully be on my list but I'll be sure to look through my seeds to see what else I have to offer. Tomato seeds are great about staying viable for a long time too; many years in fact! Lovey dubby

I can vouch from personal experience. My first year, I didn't have many seeds to offer. While I don't have as many offers as others, I still have grown my offerings from either seed saving or unused seeds I ordered. The more the merrier. ;)

@TomatoNut95 there are usually more tomato varieties than you can imagine. But for the true tomato nut, you should check out tomatojunction's "mostly mystery mater mailing" swap. I usually get about 100-150 different varieties, from all over the world. Not that I'm trying to recruit away from this swap, as they're both great in different ways. But if you join both, you get to choose the varieties you want from here, then get a bunch of surprises from the other one.

Thanks for the suggestion but after my family's eating habits on tomatoes changed, I'm no longer looking for anymore varieties, especially mystery ones. Sad

I don't know what your family's issues are Anne. My husband won't touch any non-red tomato unless I chop them up and toss them in a salad. Green Grin!

My folks have or are scared they might have diverticulitis. Which means any tomatoes I give them I have to cut out the seeds. That's a pain in the neck do to do in every single fruit except stuffer tomatoes.

I have diverticulosis, and I eat everything anyway. Rolling my eyes.
I've read several studies that say the seed thing didn't hold up with larger sample sizes and repeated studies. (I'm a retired Family Practice physician.) Unfortunately, many Dr.s don't have time to keep up with the literature, and continue to advise no seeds.

One of the many reasons I haven't been to a doctor since 2021 and before I moved to Ohio... I am finally going for the first time this afternoon since I had an emergency apendectomy 2.5 weeks ago and thought it was time to give a new doc a chance. Thanks for doing all you did DraDiana

Thank you, Diana, for that confirmation! Thumbs up I was recently reading about the very same results of studies on diverticulitis and diverticulosis and eating seeds. It's my understanding that they are actually conditions of the lower intestine, and the cause is inflammation. Not sure if that's the same information you have. I have no medical background, just always reading and learning about health, mostly from a nutritional standpoint.

It does involve the colon aka big intestine I think, I have diverticulitis and osis,.but I eat things with seeds. It does flair up every once in a while.

@okieheart
I would love to know more about the mystery mater mailing. I'm always open to things like this. Is there a way to pm me info on it. You can get some pretty great seed variety this way. Also would be open to a pepper one possibly. I say possibly as I have I think 80 or so varieties of peppers to grow next year.

@Bonbons you can usually find seeds at your local feed store or garden center. As you buy for yourself, pick up an extra packet or two for the swap. I think one year I had bought too much rooting hormone when it was on sale so copied the instructions & divided some of it for the swap. I think I've seen those green sticks people use in pots too.

Good idea! Or if seed packets are already sold out I'll send you some of mine! Thumbs up I decided not to join the big swap this year as I need to cut back on what I grow. I'm no longer looking for anymore tomato varieties nor do I need anymore oddities, because every spring and summer I squabble for space then am forced out of it.
I'm trying to have my own SAE or trade over in seed trading forum but so for only one bite. I'm quite disappointed, really as I have a lot of seeds to share. If anybody here would like to go look at my post, I'd sure appreciate it. Smiling

@TomatoNut95 are you looking for individual trades to get whichever seeds you want and.pass on the ones you no longer want?

Yes. I'm still looking for particular things like lithops, desert rose and ornamental grass. Anything else I'll take cold crop seed as I have free reign over the garden in winter. I'll even take squash seed (straightneck, croockneck, scallop) or pea seed (purple hull, Ladyfinger cream, or zipper) or Contender green beans.
