I have childhood memories of huge red clumps of perennial Oriental poppies in my mom's gardens in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan [close to the border of Canada]. I would love to have an Oriental poppy in my Salem, Oregon flowerbed and am curious if anyone is growing them successfully in the Willamette Valley.

I thought I would revisit this wish as we are having colder and longer winters the past few years with cooler summers. Anyone? Thank You!

Hi Rhandrich...I live is SW Washington, climate pretty much like the Willamette Valley. Oriental poppies do wonderfully in this climate so definitely go for it!

I live on the east side of the Cascades, up in Washington. We have very long, cold winters and I can grow oriental poppies easily.
