Welcome to Spider and Unusual Form Daylilies! Whether in a dedicated garden or interspersed throughout the gardens, these specialty categories of daylilies lend texture and interest like no other. Incorporating these daylilies in to our gardens is a personal preference, and we love 'em, so let's share them here on the NGA.

Helix, this daylily started it all for me. I fell in love in 2014 and never looked back. Helix opened my eyes to the daylily world, of all types, and turned me in to a rookie daylily geek.


I absolutely love the curls on this daylily.

I'm posting this photo because this Helix clump is planted in a garden where a tree used to be. (It has increased enough that I now have four separate clumps throughout the gardens.) High winds brought a large part of the tree down in April of 2017, and during the removal, his Mama jumped out from inside the hollow trunk and ran off. The crew stopped their chainsaws, looked down in to the trunk and discovered her litter of three male kittens, Jasper being one of them. Once they got the trunk short enough to reach them, the crew extracted the kittens. Their eyes weren't even open yet....they were just adorable. Our DD and I tried in to the wee hours of the morning to lure their Mama back, but she never came back. After being nursed and weened by a surrogate cat, two were adopted out and we kept Jasper. He is quite the character, and, along with our other cat, he has brought such joy in to our lives, being new empty nesters.

Lily Munster She was acquired early on, and she can be just so delicately stunning.

Dana, I totally agree with you on the spiders and UF's adding interest when you intersperse them through the garden. You have quite an eye for design, and it shows in your garden pics!

I missed posting Heavenly Flight of Angels yesterday, so this is a good place to put it:)

I need more spiders for sure, my Helix has not done well in my garden, it tends to put out very few blooms and normally only one at a time. Maybe I need a new location for it.

Larry, I'm not sure what your situation is, but the Helix clump I posted is in a garden that gets full sun all day. I do have one in a location where it's shaded until early afternoon and it's smaller and only one or two blooms show up at a time...three if I'm lucky.

Larry, Manning has some beautiful UFs that would do well for you - His are among my favorite whites.

Jill, I noticed you have a lot of Davissons - hers are always gorgeous, and I have been adding more of them lately.

I have a bunch of Murphy and Reed UFs , as well. Each one is so fantastic - Dances With Giraffes was one of the first of theirs I bought (it looks like Giraffes Necks bobbing in the wind when in bloom), and I love them all.

Blazing Saddles is a new one for my garden. Thanks to Debra!

Does Navajo Pony always curl? Love the pictures, I like curls too. I may need to add that one.

As you can see from this pic, Navajo Pony has a fair amount of curl to the petals, but curling is variable.
This pic shows more, it almost looks like bending over backwards.

I just got 'Navajo Pony' this spring, no blooms yet but I do still have hopes.

How do you like the White chocolate? Does it perform well? I don't hyridize. I'm looking for cultivars that are very close to, if not, white for a veteran's memorial garden I am putting together.
