Me too. I have two patches of dahlias, both with several plants of Bishops Children. One patch is full of flowers, the other, everytime a flower opens the petals get eaten off. I suspect slugs. I'm going to scatter some slug pellets around the plants and see if that helps. I use a safe, organic brand I got at Lowe's. It's mineral-based, no chemicals. Worked well in the veg last year.
I am not "country" I am "landed gentry."

Mine has been earwigs and I think I spotted a cucumber beetle. Not to mention the JBs which have not been too terrible just yet. Maybe they don't have soybeans down the street which might be a good help.

We had a heck of a heavy rain last night so maybe today I can finally put out some diatomaceous earth. Will see. I had a coworker that swore by that in the summer.
Every gardener knows that under the cloak of winter lies a miracle ... a seed waiting to sprout, a bulb opening to the light, a bud straining to unfurl. And the anticipation nurtures our dream."
