I had the start and end dates of the whole first game of the swap, the rules, the specifics and the prize photos ready to hit send, and somehow deleted the whole shebang. (Is that how you spell shebang?) The first game is a tomato trivia game because we already have well beyond a hundred different tomatoes listed.

Anyway, I'll try again tomorrow. My frustration is compounded by having fried another hard drive and I tried to do this from a Chromebook. I'm old school; not a fan. Hilarious!

Tomato Trivia is a game for members of the Mile High Seed Swap. There are so many tomato seeds already on offer, there must be some tomato experts around.
On September 12, this coming Tuesday at 8:00 pm, I will post a 12 question quiz. The first person's submission posted to this thread with the most correct answers will win their choice of a prize, so be quick, but be sure. Answers will be accepted until September 13 at midnight eastern time.
This is pure trivia. Use whatever resources you choose to answer the questions, but once you submit your answer you are not allowed to go back and edit your post, or to create a second one.
The winner's prize will be mailed the following Monday.

Remember, this swap has a low participation limit due to the volume of seeds, and it is now almost full. If you know at this point that you won't be able to participate, go to this swap's main page, choose option three in the first box and "leave the swap", giving someone else a chance to join and to participate in the games and the swap.
Have fun and good luck!

I should clarify that anyone who is officially signed up for the Mile High Swap by September 12 before I post the quiz at 8:00 pm is eligible to play.
Lisa added more slots for players.

Alana,

I did add more slots because the other swamp running here seems to be charging an excessive amount of return postage and there are some players that will not be able to participate due to the additional cost.

Just a reminder that I will post the Tomato Trivia game at or about 8 pm Eastern tonight. Only swap members may play, but anyone who has joined the swap by the time I post the game will be eligible.

I know that there can be more than one answer to the same problem. I have checked with at least 2 sources for the answers to the quiz questions and the answer I have recorded is the one that will prevail. I have endeavored not to ask questions that have several possible accurate responses but the internet offers endless possibilities.

FYI, If you haven't yet, review the swap rules for this year. Lisa lowered the pack requirement for the swap to 50 named minimum. After that, any additional number can be named or unnamed.

Good luck!

Excellent questions. I was hoping to be able to answer with very little googling, but that doesn't seem likely. I'm about to learn a lot about tomatoes! Thank you! Smiling

So, I didn't want to use Google, and decided to wait and see answers. FWIW, I didn't know the answers to many, but I did know the answers to 4,7,8,10 and 11. Fun game!

I only knew a few of those before putting it together. Notably, I had no idea we had a culinary and historical hero named Robert Johnson who helped make tomatoes mainstream fare.

The deadline for submissions is midnight tonight. I'm not even going to check the entries for accuracy yet in case there are more submissions, but I'll announce the winner tomorrow.

Only two submissions? I hope people who didn't want the pressure of doing research enjoyed it anyway. I did. The effort deserves a reward.

Both entries answered that red was the color of the first cultivated tomato, according to historians. The sources I checked indicated it was most likely a yellow fruited strain of S. pimpinellilifolium. I searched after reading those answers and found that some say they were red, so there is an element of inconclusiveness. For our purposes the question is moot.

@AudreyDee was first, so she chooses first. @jlee , after Audrey chooses, you can select a prize from the remaining two.
Congratulations!

Alana,
I enjoyed it too. I consider the swap contests as much fun as the seed dibbing! I'd love to have the rooted hibiscus cutting. If you plan on sending the prizes now rather than after the swap, let me know and I'll send you my address.

It was fun to read and learn - yeah, I didn't want to do the research, but enjoyed seeing the answers from those that did. I like to "learn something new every day". Thank You!

Me too, Kim.

Audrey, I planned to mail on Monday, but I've been volunteered to help with a school event that day by my granddaughter. I can mail Tuesday, or any other day you choose over the next couple of weeks that you prefer. I don't want to wait until after the swap. It will likely be too cold for that plant to travel in December.

Same for your choice @jlee, I'll mail at your convenience whenever you prefer, but need to do it by the end of the month. I'll have a busy couple of weeks after that.

Congrats @AudreyDee Hurray!

Audrey, if you enjoy games and would like to post a game, feel free! The more games that get played, the more fun for everyone.

I'll likely post a couple during the swap. I'm just not ready to check in daily right now! Maybe in a couple of weeks.
