Someone on another website said it was a Araneus diadematus European Garden Spider, female. Do you experts agree?

It looks like the common orb weaver we usually have every fall.
Would the european one even be found in NE?

By the way, we assume it is from your location on your profile. If not, do specify.
Plant it and they will come.

You're right. I should've specified a location. The pics were taken near Missouri Valley, Iowa back in 2015. They are apparently in Iowa and Nebraska, according to usaspiders.com. I really wish I had taken pics of the top of the spider. Aren't there several kinds of orb weavers in the midwest?

The (loosely named) Insects of Iowa lists orb weavers

with three Neoscona - I think genus Neoscona is a very good bet
I don't know how reliable or complete that site is.
Plant it and they will come.

Barn spider. I have them in western Oregon. One lived outside my bedroom window last year. Fed her grasshoppers.

This year suddenly there are orb weavers all over right now. Everything has been slow this year.
