Triiiiiiiviahhhhhh!

Yes, it's that time of year again. The seeds are sprawled out everywhere as everyone is in a mad dash to get those last seeds into the swap. Extra browser tabs are opened as we peek at the lists of what's already in the swap and we come across those head-scratcher plant types that are too intriguing to scroll past as we look them up in the database on a separate tab. Sound familiar? Yes, seed swappers, that's us. But we always stop for a little fun (without the sun) to stretch that grey matter, exercise those typing fingers, and try to snag a little extra seed or gardening goodie to excite us before the swap.

So, without further ado, I present the prizes:

Thumb of 2023-10-21/DogsNDaylilies/1df0dc

* Green washi tape with images/outlines of produce (sold by MI Gardener as a way to close seed packets) - claimed by Joolie
* Pink washi tape that says "save seeds and grow BIGGER" (" ") - claimed by DraDiana
* Tomato seeds - "Moonbeam" - - claimed by beaumbra001
* Squash seeds - "Lemon" - claimed by okieheart
* Pepper seeds - "Cayenne Orange" claimed by Hammerojustice
* Tomato seeds - "Lucky Tiger"
* Poppy seeds - "Cream Poppy"
* Poppy seeds - "Swansdown"
* Poppy seeds - "Crimson Feathers"
* Stocks seeds - "Murasaki No Uta"
* Poppy seeds - "Amazing Grey"
* Seed Storage Set - claimed by beaumbra001

When I confirm that you are the winner for a given round of trivia, please write your prize choice below (here in the thread) as soon as possible so that I can mark it as claimed within the list. The above list will be updated as the trivia goes on. If you don't respond with your choice within a reasonable time frame (usually I allow up to 24 hours), then you will forfeit your win and the next person to win a trivia round will get their pick of the prizes available (which could still be you). I would like to see everyone participate and have a chance, so I ask that if you have won 2 trivia challenges, that you sit out for the remaining rounds (unless they are picture-based responses or other types of trivia that rely on something subjective that you would like to join in just for fun).

Any seed prizes that may be leftover after the trivia session will likely be divvied up and entered as a swap entry, time permitting.

Okay, let's play!

Where did the word 'pumpkin' come from, and what was its original meaning?

(Please completely answer this multi-part trivia question!)

The word "pumpkin" originates from "peopon," which means "large melon" in Greek. It then evolved to "pompon" in French and "pumpion" in Britain. The Americans later changed it to "pumpkin," the name we still use today.

It probably originates from Greek words meaning "large melon" and "ripe or ripen." Kin is an old diminutive.

pumpkin originated from the Greek word for "large melon" which is "pepon." "Pepon" was nasalized by the French into "pompon." The English changed "pompon" to "Pumpion." Shakespeare referred to the "pumpion" in his Merry Wives of Windsor. American colonists changed "pumpion" into "pumpkin."

I'm posting a second one tonight since I didn't get to post one yesterday. :)

Trivia #3 You can tell from a turkey's poop which gender it is. What's the difference that lets us know this? (Be specific.)

(Whomever answers this one correctly, first, will need to wait to chose their prize until after Okieheart chooses her prize.)

Lol, right? Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I couldn't resist sharing my new-found knowledge on that one. Gender-identifying a turkey by their bowel movements. Hilarious!
